This program is a pre-entry requirement for many construction and industry work sites. The course is provided by the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA).
CSTS Basic Modules:
- Worker and Employer Responsibilities
- Work Site Expectations
- Hazard Management
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Manual Lifting
- Hand Tools
- Noise
- WHMIS
- Emergency Response Preparedness
Upon completing all 5 modules and passing all associated tests, students will receive their course certificate.

Ground Disturbance 201
This course explores the critical topic of ground disturbance, which encompasses any activity that disrupts the earth’s surface. When digging deeper than 12 inches, there’s a potential risk of encountering underground utilities, making it essential to understand and mitigate these risks. Across Canada, thousands of buried facilities are accidentally damaged annually, leading to water main breaks, electrical outages, pipeline leaks, and other incidents.
To minimize these risks, it’s imperative to implement a comprehensive damage prevention program. In this course, students will learn different methods to ensure ground disturbance is done safely.
Here’s an overview of the course structure:
- Module 1: Introduction to Ground Disturbance
- Module 2: Safety
- Module 3: Pre-Excavation Procedures
- Module 4: Excavation Procedures
- Module 5: Post-Excavation Procedures
Following each module, there’s a test requiring a score of 100% to access the next lesson. Upon completing all 5 modules and passing all associated tests, students will receive their course certificate. This course is a Level-II supervisory course and is endorsed by the Canadian Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Council (COEJATC).
Website
Course Length: 4-5 Hours
Certificate Expiry: 3 Years from the Date of Issue
Cost: $90.00
Note: OE987 members may require a Ground Disturbance Certificate to indicate an endorsement by Utility Safety Partners in Alberta. OETIM can also provide a USP-endorsed course if required.
