Your Crane Operator Training Specialists

Crane Training

There are three branches of crane operation:

  • Branch 1 – Mobile Crane Operator
  • Branch 2 – Boom Truck Hoist Operator
  • Branch 3 – Tower Crane Operator

All branches are compulsory trades, requiring students to be registered crane apprentices before taking any training. While Boom Truck Operator isn’t Red Seal-certified, it does necessitate provincial certification and apprenticeship registration.

Crane and Hoist operators are trained to handle various cranes and equipment for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy construction materials. Holding a Class 1 driver’s license is recommended.

OETIM partners with RRC Polytech (formerly Red River College) to deliver this training on behalf of Apprenticeship Manitoba.

The pathway to becoming a crane operator involves:

  • Choosing your branch: mobile, boom truck, or tower
  • Seeking employment with a company that employs Journeypersons in your chosen branch and securing apprenticeship sponsorship
  • Completing an apprentice application via the provided link: https://www.gov.mb.ca/wd/apprenticeship
  • Logging your working hours
  • Attending technical training at school after completing the required hours
  • Returning to work and accumulating hours between each school level
  • Completing the final level of training and writing the Red Seal Exam (for Mobile and Tower branches)
  • Upon meeting hour requirements, anniversary date, and passing the Red Seal Exam, you become a Certified Journeyperson Crane Operator

Crane Awareness Training

Course Description:
In recent years, there has been a concerning increase in crane-related accidents, with a significant portion leading to minor injuries and a smaller yet alarming percentage resulting in fatalities, particularly among non-crane operators.

To tackle this problem, OETIM’s crane awareness training program was created to educate owners, contractors, supervisors, and workers about the importance of being more aware of crane operations. This increased knowledge of cranes helps reduce the risk of injuries to everyone on the job site. The program brings many benefits, including making the work environment safer, increasing alertness, and ensuring that all workers, especially new ones, are well-informed.

Upon completion of the 1-day course, students receive a certificate valid for 3-years from the date of issue.
